If I Stay Poster analysis
This is the movie poster for If I Stay. The colours used are very autumnal which can relate to my movie as it is set over autumn and winter.
I like the way the image is split into 12 squares and that some of the original image is replaced with other images. The range of shots used works really well as it shows that they are separate events. The main image is a close up which is good to show the main character. The image is filtered with an orange/brown colour and a straight face. Her emotions shows that she seems disappointed or confused about something which will draw the audience in as they will be curious. The image in the top left corner may cause the audience to question the movie as she is standing in front of him but he is looking straight over her head. The image next to this has a white tone and she is wearing loose clothing. The white tone connotes purity and she can be seen as an angelic figure which may suggest death in the film. There is a low angle on a couple which may suggest these are people she looks up to. I like the use of spilt image as it makes it different to other movie posters. I have decided that I want to use a split image in some way on my poster maybe to show the split in the friendship.
The slogan "live for life" works well with the title of the film as it seems to make her decision. It might make the audience question the ending of the film as it seems the slogan may have given the ending away. So will be curious to watch to find out what her choices are and how she makes them. For my slogan, I don't want to make it obvious what the films about and just want to draw the audience in.
The title looks like the main character could have written it herself in a diary entry or an informal letter to her friends because of the lack of capitalisation. Also the font looks like it is a girls handwriting. I want to use a font similar to this in my movie to make the audience feel more engaged because they may feel personally connected to the main character as it seems as if it is an insight into their lives.

Paper Towns Website
Paper Towns Website
This is the website for Paper towns. I really like the simplicity of this homepage as its mainly an image with a few tabs. The image immediately draws the attention of the audience as the image to text ratio is largely unbalanced by the image. The close up is used effectively because the main focus is on the eyes which add mystery. The image used is a professional photo done from an actual photo shoot rather than just using screenshots from the film which is what I am going to do for my movie website. The facial expressions on the actors don’t give much away about their characters in the film, other than that they might be really serious. The girls hair is used as a prop and presents her in a model like way. Her hair covers a lot of her face which yet again, adds another element of mystery about her. I really like this because it doesn't do it in an obvious way.
“From the author of..” is a good thing to include on a website because it is what will draw the audience into the film and if they liked The Fault In Our Stars then they are going to like this film. I can use the movie I made in AS to create the same as both films are going to have the same target audience.
The typography is kept consistent throughout the whole of the website which I like because it makes the website look neater and also the audience won’t be confused by different fonts by creating a Brand Image. The colour scheme of the website is quite bright which attracts the audience as the contrasting colours work well together. There is is other colours used for promotional reasons which they have chosen in order to stand out from the rest to engage the audience into buying their products or becoming more familiar with the film.
At the bottom right hand corner you can see that it was made on Tumblr, a social media site that is used widely by teenagers. I think this is really effective because the audience are able to see whenever they update their website by following them and then their new posts will appear on their feed which they can then further share on others blogs. Tumblr allows the website to include GIFs of the film which the audience can reblog. I really like the idea of using Tumblr as it allows the audience to stay connected with the film at all times and they may feel like a part of the film if they can include parts of the website on their own personal blogs. It also helps to promote the film further. Also the bar of social media they have included allows the audience to follow them on all forms of social media with just one click of a button. The target audience of my film will be big users of social media so I think Tumblr is the best site to make it on so the film will always be on their feeds even when they aren’t searching for the film.
The tabs used are all linked with the film and give further insight. All of the tabs include a lot of interactivity for example: rollovers; links to trailers; animated images and a personalised feature that allows the audience to tweet like margo, the main character. I would like to use this so the target audience of my film feel engaged with the story and feel like they are a part of it.

The Fault In Our Stars Website
This is the website for The Fault In Our Stars. A you can see from the top right hand corner it has been made on the social media site Tumblr. This is a very popular social media site that is widely used by teenagers in order to create their own blogs by sharing posts with other people. The way they have chosen to use this social media network for the website is very effective because it allows the target audience to always stay connected and include the posts from the fault in our stars on their own personal blogs too. The audience are able to follow the fault in our stars and repost their new content whenever its posted. Tumblr is a good place for me to make my website for this reason. The audience are able to follow the website and get constant updates from them.
Similarly to the Paper Towns website, this website also uses a bigger image in comparison to text. The animation of the image makes the two main characters stand out and also makes the image more fun. The body language of the characters makes it obvious that it is a romantic story. However, the use of props, the oxygen tank, shows that it isn’t a typical romantic film and will include an element of sadness which most teenage girls like to watch to release some of their emotions built inside of them. The drawn props all connote romance, the stars and the park bench can be seen as being romantic. I really like the illustration because its something different that other websites don’t include.
“Adapted from best selling novel” immediately attracts people to the film because if they have read the book then they will want to see the film. This is included on a lot of websites I have looked at so will include this on my website because the audience can recognise the film from a book they have read.
Just like the paper towns website, the main colour scheme are yellow, blue and white. These colours work well together and seem to be popular colours to use so may consider these colours. They work well together because they are easily visible. White connotes innocence and purity and blue connotes calmness.
They have included a social media bar to keep the audience engaged with the film just by one click of a button. This is good for the audience because they don’t have to search around the internet trying to look for other information about the film. They can simply access it all quickly. I want to add this on my website to keep the audience more engaged with the film.
The tabs on the page turn in blue boxes when you roll over them. This is a good feature to have because the audience can clearly see where they are about to click and navigate to. A few of the tabs allows the audience to become part of the film by signing up to a newsletter, submitting their own illustrations or even their selfies to become part of the sky and become a star. This is a good interactivity idea that I would want to look into for my website.

If I Stay Website
This is the website for If I Stay. The colour scheme and the image link effectively. The purple colour connotes autumn and in the image the girl is wearing a beanie hat and the boy is wearing a hoodie which shows that it is autumn. These are the only two colours used which makes the website look neat and organised. Even the image has a purple hint filter. The consistency of the colours makes it easy on the eye which I really like and I am thinking about only using two colours for my website.
The image to text ratio is really unbalanced. There is very little text on this website homepage which will attract the audience as there is little that they have to read. The header image of the couple is a two shot which works well because it shows the relationship of the two teens in the movie to attract the target audience of the film. The couple look very happy and in love and people will want to watch this film after they have seen this website to watch their happy relationship. On my website I want to show the two girls looking like they're having fun in a good friendship with each other. I will use an image of them hugging to show their bond.
Using the trailer on the homepage is also very effective as it will be the first thing that new visitors will see so they will immediately watch the trailer.
Again, just like the other two websites, this was also made on Tumblr. This seems to be the best platform for me to make my website as the websites that fit within my genre all use tumblr to appeal to the target audience of the film. Tumblr also allows further promotion of the film by allowing followers to reblog posts to their followers who may not know about the film. This will be good for my film because my film will be an independent film so it’ll be another way to market the film.
The interactivity on the webpage isn’t very good and personally I don’t like the way the tabs open a newpage. The home page and the love you live for pages are both the same which is very disappointing as I was expecting something that can engage the audience in the website further. However, I do like that they have included a lot of GIFs and is a very picture heavy website so there isn't much to have to read.
Overall, I think this is a very simple website and I think they could have done more to make it more interesting and appealing to the target audience. However, I really like the colour scheme they have used and the layout of the website.

Me and Earl an The Dying Girl Trailer Analysis
The trailer first paints a picture that it is a “normal” guy who doesn't fit into a cliched group. The trailer looks like it works hard to also show that it isn't a cliched film for example a typical boy meets girl story where they fall in love, she gets cancer and dies. It shows that there all be laughs, tears and possibly anger at points with the male character. We are also reminded it isn't a stereotypical romance by strictly showing their friendship and not one kiss is shown.
The non diegetic harp playing slowly at the beginning with the tempo building as both of the main characters are introduced. It then slows and becomes more dramatic when we learn that one of the main characters has cancer. The music gets happier to show there are lighter sides to the film and it isn’t all sad. The music becomes less important when they talk about making the movie for the girl which is the main story of the film and the different dramas involved. This shows that the story isn't just about the girl having cancer but the difficulties on the people around her and the challenges they will go to just to please their friend. The music continues to build tempo through the trailer to constantly remind the audience that this isn’t a typical heartbreaking sob story as it can keep the audience happy along with the main characters. In my trailer I will lower the music whenever the characters are speaking as it is less important to the story than the dialogue.
There aren’t many obvious fade to black transitions because there is little element of drama happening and they are trying to show the more uplifting, comic side of the story. The camera does a lot of panning and tracking to show the movement of the story.
At the beginning when his mother tells him Rachael is dying, a lot of high angles are shown. This paints him as weaker as he is only trying to be her friend out of pity so it is done in a more comedy way. He explains to her that he is only there because his mum told him to go.
From this trailer, I have chosen that I want my trailer to include more happy moments than sad moments to create a positive image about my film to the audience. I will show some elements of sadness but will try not to make that the main focus. I will do this by showing the two friends going out and having fun creating good memories being happy. I will show minimal footage of her having cancer.

If I Stay Trailer Analysis
At the beginning of the trailer the screen is black and all you can hear is footsteps. I like this because it adds suspense to where the footsteps are leading too. Then you see the main character walking on stage with a chello from an establishing shot and three people sitting down in front of her in a massive stadium which shows the audience that she is in some sort of audition which is important. The sound of the chello starts to play as we are pointed towards a ceiling which we then learn that is is the ceiling from Juilliard painted on her ceiling so she becomes familiar with the setting and isn't put off by nerves. By the opening of the trailer we can already tell that the film is based on her music talents by the way the main focus is on music and her playing it shown by many close ups. The sound of her playing the chello continues throughout the first half of the trailer which I really liked because it creates a dramatic feel to the film and also speeds up when happy bits of the film are shown. For my film, I will use different music to create different moods of the film. I plan for my trailer to start happy and end sad so will use two different types of music to show this then maybe add another piece of music to transition between the two.
The use of editing in the trailer is really effective by including many fade to blacks at the beginning, middle and end of the trailer to show the target audience that there is always an element of drama happening so they are intrigued to watch. Each sequence used to create a different effect. At the beginning it is shown to introduce some of the many settings. Then in the middle it creates suspense to the car crash to make the audience worried about what is happening. At the end they are used to show the memories she’s had with everyone important in her life. I think the use of editing is really effective in this movie trailer because it creates different moods in the trailer. When Adam is first introduced, a lot of dissolves are used which shows his importance by having loads of clips of him rolled into one sequence. A lot of low angle shots are used on him which paints him as being a powerful figure in the story of If I Stay and immediately shows that he is the love interest in the story. For my trailer I will use different transitions to create different moods as I have now seen how effective this is to introduce characters.
The change of music after the crash works really effectively because the music really slows down which is effective as it could be related to her heartbeat slowly deteriorating. Also it is a well known song to make audiences more attracted to the trailer because they know the song. The song is Say Something by A Whole New World which is a sad song so adds to the dramaticness of the trailer. The piano of the song is a really deep, harsh sound.

Moodboard
1. Two young girls playing together in the park. I like how happy they look playing together and hugging each other like they really love each other. The main characters in my film have been best friends for their whole lives so this is image I'd like to capture to show this/
2. The cool guys - I have chosen this image because he looks like the typical high school boy so would be the perfect person to play Jack. From the image you can tell he is a very relaxed person by his posture who doesn't really care about anything. This is the perfect image to represent Jack before Ava gets diagnosed.
3. I have chosen this image because you can tell by their body language that they are two friends and one is comforting the other. The girl with brown hair looks really upset and fed up. The blonde girl is hugging her and holding her hand to show her support, This is the image that I would like to show when Ava tells Izzy about her illness.
4. I have chosen this couple because this is how I want to portray Izzy and Jack. They're close but they are also sad about Ava and using each other for comfort.
5. Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin - I have chosen to have an image of these two because they are bestfriends and they're inseperable, just like the main characters in my movie. Also in the image, Kendall looks like she's leading Hailey which may show she is more confident and Hailey looks at her for guidance just like Izzy looks at Ava in the plot of my film. Kendall is dressed more revealingly to show her confidence in herself and Hailey being more covered may show she is conscious about the way she looks.
6. I have chosen this image because it is a typical girly room which is what I would like to create to be Ava's bedroom.
7. This image is a really powerful image because you can tell the emotions just through body language itself and nothing else. No facial expressions are shown. Also the messy bun and hoody looks effortless but looks nice at the same time which could be easy to replicate for my film.
8. Brighton Pier at night looks like a good location to film in because of the light. It could be seen as romantic or a good place for friends to go so could be used in my film to show Izzy and Ava together and then Izzy and Jack together to show the deterioration between their friendship and Jack coming between them.
9. This is just a standard school cafeteria which I thought would be a good place to show Izzy sitting alone after Ava falls sick.
10. I thought this image is a good way to show how Izzy and Ava are inseparable, even when they're not together they are video calling each other and always talking.
11. I have chosen this image because it looks like a romantic setting for Jack and Izzy
12. This image shows two girls doing each others make up which is a typical girly activity. The two girls look like they are a good time which is what I want to show Izzy and Ava's friendship like
13. Justin and Selena are known for their cute relationship so I have chosen this image because I want Izzy and Jack to have a relationship like this
