This is the website for The Fault In Our Stars. A you can see from the top right hand corner it has been made on the social media site Tumblr. This is a very popular social media site that is widely used by teenagers in order to create their own blogs by sharing posts with other people. The way they have chosen to use this social media network for the website is very effective because it allows the target audience to always stay connected and include the posts from the fault in our stars on their own personal blogs too. The audience are able to follow the fault in our stars and repost their new content whenever its posted. Tumblr is a good place for me to make my website for this reason. The audience are able to follow the website and get constant updates from them.
Similarly to the Paper Towns website, this website also uses a bigger image in comparison to text. The animation of the image makes the two main characters stand out and also makes the image more fun. The body language of the characters makes it obvious that it is a romantic story. However, the use of props, the oxygen tank, shows that it isn’t a typical romantic film and will include an element of sadness which most teenage girls like to watch to release some of their emotions built inside of them. The drawn props all connote romance, the stars and the park bench can be seen as being romantic. I really like the illustration because its something different that other websites don’t include.
“Adapted from best selling novel” immediately attracts people to the film because if they have read the book then they will want to see the film. This is included on a lot of websites I have looked at so will include this on my website because the audience can recognise the film from a book they have read.
Just like the paper towns website, the main colour scheme are yellow, blue and white. These colours work well together and seem to be popular colours to use so may consider these colours. They work well together because they are easily visible. White connotes innocence and purity and blue connotes calmness.
They have included a social media bar to keep the audience engaged with the film just by one click of a button. This is good for the audience because they don’t have to search around the internet trying to look for other information about the film. They can simply access it all quickly. I want to add this on my website to keep the audience more engaged with the film.
The tabs on the page turn in blue boxes when you roll over them. This is a good feature to have because the audience can clearly see where they are about to click and navigate to. A few of the tabs allows the audience to become part of the film by signing up to a newsletter, submitting their own illustrations or even their selfies to become part of the sky and become a star. This is a good interactivity idea that I would want to look into for my website.
